I’d like to wish you a Happy Canada Day just this passed weekend from here in picturesque Ottawa the capital, currently under a blazing heat wave. Welcome to my newsletter letting you know about my musical meanderings related to Greece and China! I invite you to view my video greeting here.
This just in! I received confirmation that the international arm CCTV-4 of China Central TV in Beijing will be producing a documentary about yours truly as part of the series titled “China Affinity”. Filming to commence right here in Ottawa early this fall. I will keep you posted as this progresses!
I am thrilled to announce I will be releasing my Greek Chinese fusion album ‘Bringing the Greek Party to China’ with my band this October. More details to come!
The last few months have been busy and here is a quick rundown of three presentations I’ve been privileged to be part of.
Athens Meets Beijing!
Talk about international. The Beijing municipal government engaged me in May to fly from Ottawa to Athens to sing in Chinese and to MC at a joint China-Greece international government marketing meeting promoting tourism in China. This event took place at the illustrious Zappeion Exhibition Hall, the event being called Connections with the Silk Road. The song I performed as a duet with Chinese co-singer Tian Xin was a 2008 Beijing Olympic song called Beijing Welcomes You. You may watch the video here.
The lyrics in english say: Welcome to Beijing, wherever you’re from you’ll be our guest. Come on! Let’s all challenge ourselves. Welcome to Beijing, let’s breathe the same air under the sun. Miracles happen to those with the courage to try.
Beijing Association 20th Anniversary Gala Concert
In March I had the pleasure to take part in this event as a solo guest artist which took place at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Toronto. I performed an original song called I Also Love You, China and a well known traditional folksong called Girl from Da Ban Town. You may watch the video here.
China Broadcasting Film Symphony Orchestra
In January I was invited to appear with the China Broadcasting Film Symphony Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto and at the Centrepointe Theatre in Ottawa where I sang a duet with soprano Wang Xiaoying. Performing with a full orchestra and co-singer in Chinese in front of a full house was a real challenge, intimidating yet exciting!
